One of the precursors: Alfred Kubin

Each admirer of Beksiński’s art will certainly be sensitive to the unusual visions of Alfred Kubin, an Austrian drawer and writer form the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century (1877-1959). In his works one may find many elements of our Genius’s works: sadomasochism, irony, farce, extremely bizarre effects, cruelty, despair, fear of death and remarkably meticulous workshop. That world of fantasy, symbols and nightmares, sexual obsessions and demonic beauty cannot leave any of Beksiński’s fans indifferent, because this is the same world. And that is the reason why today I am coming back to Alfred Kubin, though it has been more than half a century since he passed away.
